Music

As long as I can remember I’ve been playing the harmonica and been very fond of singing and music in general. The Sixties opened me up for modern popular music, and at the age of seventeen I began to play the guitar, soon also combined with the harp and with singing. Modern Folk, Blues, Rock, Funk, and Jazz have most influenced my own playing. But my interests have always covered a very broad spectrum of other genres too, e.g. Gypsy music.

In the Mid-seventies in Vancouver I joined a Punk band for a while, my initiation to playing electric music. A longstanding friendship also started then, with David Gregg, who soon after joined D.O.A., and is now with the Real McKenzies, check them out on www.realmckenzies.com. They have toured in Europe regularly and will do so again. Great company, very good friends!

Through the Eighties I kept writing and playing mainly on acoustic guitar again.
In the Nineties I led the group “Chief Broom”, anything from duo to quartet, archaic style Blues, Jazz-Folk, Acoustic Rock, performing mainly my own songs and pieces.

In 2001 I met Roma musicians from east Slovakia and started managing different groups, who at times were rather successful, even featured on Slovak television (the Presov Gypsy Ensemble with Vera Bila) or playing at the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Switzerland (Holub Quartett and Romani Zor). See some of this on website www.romanizor.com and myspace. I have also attended several workshops with the renowned Gypsy singer Ida Kelarova www.kelarova.com and I regularly sing Roma songs in a choir.
A year ago I joined the Prog-rock band “Tim en Voyage” www.timenvoyage.ch and really enjoy playing and singing with them a whole lot.
